Overview
This service offers hosting of the network servers (DNS, WWW) that each organization needs, operated on their behalf by the Center for Information Infrastructure.
The servers are operated by the Center for Information Infrastructure, and users access the Center's servers directly. By using this service, your organization can avoid the following administrative tasks:
- No need to build your own server
When launching a domain (DNS server) or a website (WWW server), there is no need for your organization to build a server in-house. - Daily log monitoring
We monitor servers daily for unauthorized intrusions.
(Access logs for WWW servers are provided per user, so please refer to them as needed.) - Applying security patches and software updates
Updates to server software and the OS are carried out by the Network Systems Group. - Incident response
Through automated backups and on-hand standby machines, services can be restored quickly even in the unlikely event of a failure.
Please note that, under this service, the Network Systems Group only handles maintenance of the hardware and the server software itself. User-level software (such as PHP and CGI applications) is not included.
Granting usage permission to end users, as well as awareness, education, guidance, and handling of any misconduct, remain the responsibility of each organization and individual faculty member.
Please submit an application for each service as needed. If you are migrating from an existing server, it is also possible to carry over the existing information.
For each application, configuration is typically completed and handed over to you within about one week of receipt.
Important Notes
Use of the same service is limited to up to two instances per organization or per laboratory. If you wish to use three or more, please contact us separately for consultation.
If issues with name resolution or site-specific problems arise, and your organization is unable to investigate or resolve them internally — for example because the person in charge changes frequently or no in-house expert is available — please consider outsourcing or using means other than a website.
About Renewal Applications
Due to billing requirements, this service requires a renewal procedure every fiscal year.
Near the end of the fiscal year, we will send an email regarding the renewal application for the following year to the designated contact person. If you wish to continue using the service in the next fiscal year, please follow the procedure described in the email to submit the renewal application.
If a renewal application is not submitted, the service will be suspended. Please be aware of this in advance.
Also, please note that during the renewal application period in particular, responses and the reflection of changes may take some additional time. Thank you for your understanding.
