About the Future of Event Net
Event Net for the Science Tokyo (Engineering) campus currently provides both wireless and wired LAN. To strengthen information security, wireless LAN service will end at the end of September 2026, and from October 2026 onward, wireless LAN for external visitors will be consolidated into eduroam. The wired LAN for Science Tokyo (Engineering) Event Net will continue to be provided after October 2026 to ensure stable connectivity for speakers and event organizers.
[2025/11/19] Notice: End of Event Net Service and Information on Using eduroam Visitor Accounts(JPN)
Going forward, when providing wireless LAN to off-campus visitors, please make active use of eduroam visitor account issuance.
Starting in April 2026, the number of accounts that can be issued with one-week validity has been expanded to 100 accounts.
For large-scale events, please use the "eduroam Visitor Account Issuance Limit Increase Request," which raises the per-person account issuance limit above 100 accounts.
Before Applying for Event Net
If the expected number of wireless users is fewer than 100, or if all event participants are members of the university, please follow the guidance below.
Please note that in principle we do not accept Event Net applications in these cases.
If Fewer Than 100 Wireless Users Are Expected
Please use eduroam visitor account issuance instead. Issuing an eduroam visitor account to a guest (an off-campus user) allows that guest to use eduroam within our campus access areas.
About eduroam Visitor Accounts
- Visitor accounts can be issued by Science Tokyo faculty or staff members without the need for an application. (Issuance limits: 100 accounts with one-week validity, 10 accounts with one-month validity)
- Visitor accounts are valid only within the Science Tokyo (Engineering) campuses and cannot be used at other universities or institutions.
- If distributing multiple accounts, please manage them so that the user of each account can be identified.
- For instructions on issuing eduroam visitor accounts, please see the following page: "How to Issue Account for Visitors."
If All Event Participants Are On-Campus Members
Please use the campus wireless LAN or eduroam.
The campus wireless LAN, eduroam, and Event Net wireless signals are all broadcast from the same equipment (access points).
Some applicants request Event Net wireless "just in case," but doing so does not help avoid connectivity issues.
About Applying for Event Net
For events such as academic conferences held at Science Tokyo, we provide a dedicated event network free of charge when a Science Tokyo faculty or staff member agrees to take responsibility for its use. Event Net is provided based on the information infrastructure of the Science Tokyo (Engineering) campus, so please comply with the various rules that apply when using Science Tokyo's information infrastructure (STNET).
- Science Tokyo Information Network Operation Rules
- Science Tokyo Information Security–related Rules, etc.
Please also pay particular attention to the following points:
- The responsible person and contact person for the application must be a Science Tokyo faculty or staff member.
- The responsible person is obligated to inform users of the various rules that apply when using the information infrastructure, and to ensure compliance.
- The responsible person is liable for any communications conducted over the Event Net.
- Applications must be submitted at least 3 business days before the test date.
- The applicant agrees that service may be suspended — regardless of the application period or other circumstances — if any activity or communication in violation of the rules occurs.
Please note that we are unable to accept applications, inquiries, or changes to application details submitted after the deadline, as this may make it impossible to provide adequate service.
Event Net Wireless
Participants can use the network by connecting to the event SSID in a room where an access point is installed.
- Please decide on an SSID (network name) and password.
- Please confirm that an access point is installed in the room you plan to use, and specify the building. You can check access point locations here.
- Please decide on the number of addresses needed based on the expected number of participants, etc.
Event Net Wired
We provide Event Net Wired when a stable connection is required. If you would like to use Event Net Wired, please note the following:
- Please confirm the physical cabling from the room you plan to use to the building switch.
- Some rooms have a LAN port prepared for Event Net Wired, but the NOC does not have information on the cabling routes.
- Before the test, you must contact the building management department or the Facilities Management Division to confirm the status and availability.
- Since IP addresses are assigned automatically via DHCP, please set your IP address and DNS to obtain automatically.
- The requesting organization must provide its own cable for the wired connection, as well as a hub if connecting multiple devices.
- We recommend using a hub with hub functionality only. (There have been cases where using a router as a hub resulted in connection problems.)
- We do not provide on-site support for connection verification or configuration. Please test the connection within your organization.

About Pre-Testing
This testing is intended to allow users to perform a network connection test at the venue, in order to avoid the risk of connection or communication issues. Please specify a test date within one month of the event start date (within one week, if possible).
- Between 9:30 and 17:00 on the test date, both wired and wireless will be configured with the same settings as on the day of the event.
- If you would like a different time, please let us know in the remarks field of your application.
- We do not provide on-site support for connection verification or configuration.
- Please verify connectivity and communication using the software and OS you plan to use.
- We are unable to respond to inquiries asking whether communication using a specific piece of software will be possible. Please confirm within your organization whether your intended communication will work.
Application Period
From 3 months before the start date of use until 3 business days before the test date. (Please strictly observe this application period.)
