The organization managing the AP installation location is responsible for determining whether removal or temporary removal is appropriate.

Removal

Removed APs will be used for improvements to common areas across the university. As there may be nearby users relying on leakage signal from the AP, informing relevant parties in advance — to the extent possible — will help avoid future issues.

Please contact us before beginning any work. Note that if the equipment is damaged or broken, you may be charged for the cost of repair or replacement.

Temporary Removal due to Renovation

If an AP needs to be temporarily removed due to renovation or repair of the installation location, please contact the NOC well before the work begins.

Please note that work carried out without prior notification will be treated as a network fault, and the managing organization will be asked to investigate. Depending on the cause and impact, the managing organization may be asked to submit a report or bear associated costs.

Removal Process

Step 1: Notify the NOC of the Removal Request

The organization managing the AP installation location should contact us well in advance with the following information:

  • Current information: building name, floor, room name, AP name
  • Planned removal date

Step 2: Carry Out Removal

The requesting organization should remove the AP and mounting hardware. Please take care to avoid damage during the work.

Please also remove any LAN cables that will not be used immediately. All costs related to removal are the responsibility of the requesting organization.

Step 3: Return the Equipment

Once removal is complete, please send the equipment to the NOC as soon as possible.

Items to send: AP, mounting hardware, and fixing screws

Send to:
Campus mail: E2-4, Center for Information Infrastructure, Network Systems Division
In person: Center for Information Infrastructure, 2F, Network Systems Division
Please ask at the counter on the left at the top of the stairs.

Temporary Removal

If an AP needs to be temporarily removed due to renovation or repair of the installation location, please contact the NOC well before work begins. Please include the following information in your message:

AP information: campus, building name, floor, room name (room number), AP name(s)
※ For common areas or corridors, please indicate as: 1F, Corridor, etc.
※ Example: Ookayama Campus, Center for Information Infrastructure, 1F, Corridor, o-gsic-7
Removal date: mm/dd/yy
Planned reinstallation date: mm/dd/yy

If more than one month will pass between removal and reinstallation, please consult the NOC in advance and send the equipment (AP / mounting hardware) to us. When reinstallation is ready, please contact us and provide a delivery address — we will send the equipment back.

Campus mail: E2-4, Center for Information Infrastructure, Network Systems Division
In person: Center for Information Infrastructure, 2F, Network Systems Division

Please ask at the counter on the left at the top of the stairs.

After reinstallation, please send documentation (wiring diagram and photos) as you would for a new installation.

Please also note that equipment is remotely monitored — if an AP is removed without notice or a different device is connected in its place, this will be treated as a network fault. We may need to review how the equipment is managed going forward.
